Musa Yende Steps into the Spotlight with Spirit-Filled Debut EP, Sustained by Grace

South African gospel artist Musa Yende is stepping confidently into the spotlight with the release of her debut EP, Sustained by Grace—a heartfelt seven-track offering that cements her as both a commanding vocalist and a deeply intentional worship leader.

Raised in Spruitview on the East Rand, Yende’s journey in music began in the pews of her childhood church. Her passion led her to pursue formal music studies, majoring in jazz—a training ground that refined her technique and voice control, and which now lends a fluid, soulful elegance to her gospel sound.

Before embracing her solo career, Yende was the voice behind many of South Africa’s gospel giants, contributing backing vocals for Dr Tumi, Benjamin Dube, and other celebrated names—both locally and abroad. These experiences, though often unseen, laid the essential groundwork for her current breakout moment.

“God gave me a gift, a gift that I couldn’t keep to myself,” Yende shares. “So it became a way of expressing my faith, healing, and reaching people in ways words couldn’t.”

A Spirit-Led Musical Testimony

“Sustained by Grace” is more than a debut; it’s a spiritual journey in song, crafted with intention, prayer, and artistic excellence. Produced by Joseph Makola, every note and harmony was carefully curated. The result is a seamless blend of technical brilliance and emotional resonance—an honest reflection of Yende’s faith walk.

The EP cover, featuring her signature blue hair, is more than an aesthetic statement; it’s symbolic of her uniqueness and quiet strength in a crowded industry. That same strength radiates through the opening track, “Angesabi Lutho”—a bold, declarative anthem affirming unwavering trust in God.

“It’s about surviving seasons we didn’t feel ready for… still standing—not because we had it all together, but because His grace kept showing up,” Yende reflects.

Standout Tracks: From Prayer to Praise

One of the standout tracks, “uMelusi” (The Shepherd), is a stirring testament to divine guidance in uncertain times. Its emotional depth is expanded through the “uMelusi Prayer”—a spoken-word interlude that showcases Yende’s intimacy with God and her ministry’s heartbeat.

Adding to the EP’s richness is “Amandla Amasha”, a vibrant collaboration with gospel star Brenden Praise. The duo’s musical chemistry—built over years of mutual admiration—reaches a new peak on this track, celebrating the renewing power of God’s strength.

Yende’s influences are as diverse as they are deep—Jazmine Sullivan, India Arie, Donnie McClurkin, and Le’Andria Johnson—each helping to shape the unique voice we now hear. Still, Yende remains unmistakably herself: raw, refined, and rooted in grace.

Looking Ahead: Music, Ministry, and Marketplace

More than a singer, Yende envisions herself as a multi-platform minister. She plans to expand into fashion and beauty, aiming to launch a clothing line and hair brand by 2025—all as channels to spread God’s message creatively.

“If one soul is encouraged, restored, or drawn closer to Jesus, the mission is fulfilled,” she says with calm conviction.

With Sustained by Grace, Yende has delivered not just an EP, but an experience—rich in theology, vulnerability, and praise. Her music speaks to storms weathered, faith restored, and grace that sustains us all.
