Mediamec Swizzy Daphiloso, whose real name is Freddie Matome Pilusa, is a 30-year-old versatile South African artist also known as Duka or OVERCOMER. His musical style spans across Hip-Hop, Lekompo, and African music, allowing him to express himself through different sounds and genres.
Born in Ga-Molepo, Polokwane, Limpopo, Swizzy Daphiloso is currently based in Cosmo City, north of Johannesburg. He has become known for his emotionally powerful lyrics, poetic storytelling, and music that connects deeply with listeners. Beyond music, he is also an entrepreneur and brand owner behind ventures such as Duka Wear, OVERCOMER Clothing, Duka Yak, and Duka Duka.
His journey in music has not been easy. Swizzy faced numerous challenges while trying to access studio sessions, secure performances, and build meaningful connections within the music industry. Growing up, music was always a part of his life, even though his family did not initially support his decision to pursue it professionally. However, his passion and determination kept him moving forward.
For Swizzy, music is more than entertainment it is spiritual and a calling. He believes that his talent is a gift from God, something he was destined to embrace and share with the world.
His upcoming album, titled OVERCOMER KAMIKAZE, represents the battles and struggles people face throughout life and the determination required to overcome them. The concept reflects fighting life’s challenges strategically, with music serving as his weapon and source of strength.
The inspiration behind the project comes directly from his life experiences and the environment in which he grew up. Living in the township exposed him to many difficult realities, including personal struggles, rejection, sorrow, and challenges within the music industry. Through OVERCOMER KAMIKAZE, he combines his experiences, emotions, and observations about life and the streets to create music that speaks directly to the soul.
Listeners can expect powerful and meaningful songs with messages that connect emotionally and reflect real-life experiences.
The album consists of nine songs and features production from Mr Legon SA, King Sallah, King Master, and NC Production. Featured artists include Sparta wa Di Verse, Bohlale Desta, Abuti Vee, Mahlatse Chokoe, and Droshka Myy 63. The project was mixed and mastered by Mmino More.
Every song on the album holds a special place in Swizzy’s heart because each one is connected to his personal journey, spirit, and soul. Creating the album required dedication and sacrifice. There were times when he spent entire nights in the studio, ran out of money for recording sessions, and faced moments of uncertainty. Despite the challenges, he continued because of his belief in his vision and his determination to create music that would make an impact.
