Drake Backs K-Os’ Comeback as Toronto Rapper Prepares New Album

Toronto hip-hop veteran K-Os is preparing to make his long-awaited return with a new full-length album, and he has received major backing from fellow Canadian superstar Drake.

The announcement came alongside the release of K-Os’ latest single, “Guns&Roses,” which arrived on October 2. The track appears to revisit some of the sound that made K-Os’ acclaimed 2004 album Joyful Rebellion a defining project in Canadian hip-hop.

The upcoming album will mark K-Os’ first full-length project since 2015’s Can’t Fly Without Gravity, making the comeback particularly significant for fans who have followed his career over the past two decades.

According to Complex, Drake will finance the forthcoming project, while Matte Babel, a senior figure at Drake’s DreamCrew entertainment company, will oversee its management.

The relationship between Drake and K-Os goes back many years. Before Drake became one of the world’s biggest music stars, he was already a fan of K-Os and reportedly reached out to the Toronto artist while building his own career in music.

Their connection eventually developed into a musical collaboration. The two artists worked together on “Faith,” an unreleased track that later appeared in connection with K-Os’ The Anchorman Mixtape in 2011. The song was subsequently reworked by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League as a follow-up version.

K-Os, whose real name is Kevin Brereton, has built a reputation for blending hip-hop with rock, soul, alternative music and other influences. His distinctive approach helped establish him as one of Canada’s most respected and unconventional artists.

His 2004 album Joyful Rebellion remains one of the most celebrated releases of his career, producing songs such as “Crabbuckit” and helping introduce his unique sound to an international audience.

The release of “Guns&Roses” now suggests that K-Os may be reconnecting with elements of that earlier musical identity while entering a new chapter of his career.

For Drake, supporting K-Os represents more than a business move. It also brings their long-standing Toronto connection full circle, with an artist who once inspired Drake now receiving financial and management support from the superstar.

With the new album reportedly in preparation, fans will be watching closely to see whether K-Os can recapture the creativity and genre-blending energy that defined his earlier work while bringing something new to his sound.

After more than a decade since his last studio album, K-Os’ return could become one of the more unexpected Canadian hip-hop comebacks of the year.
