Mediamec Rapper Fetty Wap, born Willie Junior Maxwell II, has been released from federal prison earlier than expected and is now beginning a period of supervised home confinement, marking a major turning point in his legal and personal journey.
The “Trap Queen” artist, who was serving a six-year sentence for his role in a federal drug trafficking conspiracy, was transferred from the Federal Correctional Institution in Sandstone, Minnesota, to home confinement in Philadelphia on January 8, 2026, after serving more than three years behind bars.
“I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for the love, prayers, and continued support — it truly means everything to me,” Fetty Wap said in a statement reflecting his gratitude following the transfer.
Now 34, Fetty Wap’s early release means he will spend the remainder of his sentence under strict supervision until November 8, 2026. His conditions include regular drug testing, restrictions on financial activity, and close oversight by federal probation officials.
During this period, he is also barred from consuming alcohol or other intoxicants unless a doctor prescribes otherwise, and he may be required to participate in an outpatient drug treatment programme if deemed necessary by the courts.
The rapper’s legal troubles began in October 2021, when he was arrested as part of a multi-defendant indictment tied to a large-scale drug distribution network that moved controlled substances from the West Coast to New York and New Jersey. After pleading guilty in 2022, he was sentenced in May 2023.
Although the Bureau of Prisons did not publicly specify the exact reasons for his early release, it reflects standard federal policies that permit sentence reductions for inmates who demonstrate good behaviour and participate in rehabilitation programmes while incarcerated.
“Right now, my focus is on giving back through my community initiatives and foundation,” he added, outlining his intention to support at-risk youth by expanding access to education, early tech skills and vision care through his charitable work.
Fetty Wap’s transfer to home confinement does not free him entirely from legal oversight he remains subject to supervision and must comply with conditions designed to aid his transition back into society.
As the rapper embarks on this next chapter, attention will now turn to whether he can fulfil his stated goals of positive community impact and rebuild his career after years away from the spotlight.
