South African house-music producer Chymamusique has received a timely financial boost thanks to a generous donation from fellow DJ and producer DJ Shimza. Chymamusique who launched a crowdfunding campaign on BackaBuddy to help cover substantial medical bills was preparing to sell valuable personal items when support from fans and colleagues surged.
In a quiet move, Shimza donated R92 000, a contribution that completed Chymamusique’s fundraising goal and relieved much of the financial pressure on his recovery journey. The donation was made under Shimza’s real name, and Chymamusique later publicly acknowledged the gift, describing it as a “one-man show” that lifted the weight of his medical obligations.
Before the donation, Chymamusique real name Collen Mmotla had been forced to consider selling prized possessions, including DJ equipment, motorbikes, and cars, in order to raise money. The fundraising effort was launched after he suffered serious injuries in a car crash that also claimed the life of his friend and fellow DJ.
Shimza’s support triggered a wave of praise on social media, with fans and fellow musicians welcoming the gesture as a strong show of solidarity within South Africa’s music community. Many highlighted how moments like these underscore the importance of unity especially when artists face hardship.
With the fundraising target now met, Chymamusique can shift his focus fully to recovery and healing. The donation not only helped ease his financial burden, but also served as a powerful reminder of compassion and support in times of need within the entertainment industry.
