Sam Deep Enters a New Era as “Who I Am” Dominates the Charts

South African Amapiano producer Sam Deep is firmly in his winning season, continuing to solidify his position as one of the genre’s most influential hitmakers as his latest work dominates the music charts.

The trailblazer closed off the year on a high note with the release of his new album, Who I Am, in December. The project is packed with infectious tracks that have quickly resonated with listeners, reaffirming Sam Deep’s status as a master of groove-driven production.

Renowned for his clean sound, soulful depth, and unmistakable musical signature, Sam Deep uses Who I Am to reflect his artistic evolution. The album captures a renewed sense of confidence, versatility, and creative maturity.

“This album reflects my journey, the highs, the lows, and the moments that shaped my sound. It’s me, fully,” shared Sam Deep.

One of the standout singles from the album, Shela, has emerged as a firm fan favourite. Released in August, just ahead of Women’s Day, the song features a stellar lineup including Nia Pearl, Boohle, and Mano.

Shela blends playful, flirty lyricism with nostalgic undertones, anchored by a reimagined chorus inspired by KB’s early 2000s hit O a lla. A celebrated singer and actress, KB’s legacy in South African music culture adds emotional weight to the track, while Sam Deep delivers a vibrant and groove-heavy interpretation that feels both fresh and familiar.

The song’s success has extended beyond streaming platforms. The official music video for Shela amassed an impressive five million views within just five days of release, making it one of the fastest-growing visual releases in Sam Deep’s catalogue. The video currently sits at 5.7 million views, while the accompanying visualizer has surpassed 21 million views.

Reflecting on the milestone, Sam Deep expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support.

“This milestone is a testament to the love and support from the fans. Every view, every share, every dance challenge means the world,” he said.

Adding to its accolades, Shela was named Song of the Year by several radio stations, underscoring its widespread appeal. In South African slang, the word ‘shela’ means to flirt or ask someone out — and with Valentine’s Day approaching, the track’s popularity is expected to surge even further.

While Shela continues to thrive, Sam Deep is already celebrating another chart-topping moment. Thandaza, the second track on Who I Am, has overtaken Shela to claim the number one spot, further highlighting the album’s depth and impact.

With a total of 27 tracks, Who I Am offers a rich collection of potential hits, and fans are hopeful that Sam Deep will continue promoting more of the project’s standout gems as he accelerates toward what is shaping up to be a dominant 2026.

Since his breakout into the Amapiano scene, Sam Deep has built a strong reputation for crafting soulful, groove-heavy records that strike a balance between commercial appeal and emotional resonance. His earlier hits, including iMpumelelo featuring Eemoh and Da Muziqal Chef, as well as Kusezo Khanya, have earned him widespread acclaim and millions of streams across digital platforms.

As Who I Am continues to make waves, Sam Deep’s trajectory shows no signs of slowing down, cementing his place at the forefront of South Africa’s ever-evolving Amapiano movement.
